In addition, the child may experience flu-like signs such as fever, cough or cold. In particularly severe cases, infants and young children may experience a high loss of fluids as well as nutrients, which can be noticed by a marked lack of drive or tearless crying. Infection of children with rotavirus is usually fecal or oral, i.e. through a so-called smear infection. During defecation, pathogens are excreted, which then adhere to the hands due to a lack of sufficient hygiene and can be passed on to others, for example, via the child's toys and mouth.

Important: When you notice the first symptoms of a rotavirus infection, you should pay particular attention to ensuring that your child drinks enough fluids to avoid a threatening dehydration of the body. You and other caregivers can also counteract the infection by regularly disinfecting toys and other objects, as well as by following general hygiene guidelines, such as frequent hand washing with disinfectants.
